ACCRA, July 18, 2018, (GJA) – The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has welcomed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to take over investigations of the assault case against Latif Iddrisu of the Multimedia Group Ltd from the Cantonments Police.
ACCRA, July 6, 2018 (GJA) – The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed deep concern about the “tardy” approach of police investigations into the assault of Latif Iddrisu, a journalist with the Multimedia Group Limited, by some police officers, and indicated its intention to petition the presidency on the matter.
“We also intend to explore other avenues for human rights redress, both at the national and international levels, as well as any other measure that would bring justice to Latif,” the GJA President, Affail Monney, said at a news conference at the Ghana International Press Centre Friday.
ACCRA, June 20, 2018 (GJA) – THE Judicial Press Corps has petitioned the Chief Justice over the conduct of Her Worship Efua Sackey, Magistrate of the District Court 8 in Accra towards its members.
According to the petition signed by Wilberforce Asare, the Dean of ,the Judicial Press Corps, Her Worship Efua Sackey, who sat on a case – Republic v Dominic Obeng Andoh Tuesday, ordered the Court Warrant Officer to seize the mobile phones of journalists present in court ostensibly to to prevent them from recording court proceedings.

ACCRA, July 4, 2018 (GJA) – The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened nominations for its 23rd Media Awards scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2018.
The awards are open to members of the Association working in the Ghanaian media establishments and cover broadcast or published works from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017.
Categories for the Awards include the P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year, Komla Dumor Most Promising Young Journalist of the Year, Best News Reporter for radio, television and print, Best Features for radio, television and print, and Best Business/Finance and Economic Reporting.
ACCRA, April 27, 2018 (GJA) – GHANA has the freest media atmosphere in Africa, according to the 2018 World Press Freedom Index published by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Wednesday. According to the ranking, Ghana placed 23rd on the 180-country list, having moved from the 26th position in 2017 to unseat Namibia from the top position in Africa.
