ACCRA, April 16, 2019, (GJA) - THE Right to Information (RTI) Coalition, a group of civil society organizations championing an RTI legal regime in Ghana, has urged President Akufo-Addo not to appoint any ignoramus to the Commission to be established under the Right to Information Act to regulate access to information.

It asked the President to appoint highly competent people with proven record of human rights activism and not any "party person" to serve on the Information Commission.

Addressing a press conference in Accra Tuesday, the RTI Coalition also urged officials of the Parliamentary Service currently cleaning up the Act before sending it for Presidential Assent, to keep the sanctity of the law without making alterations to it.

A private legal practitioner, Akoto Ampaw, who read the statement by the RTI Coalition, said "we expect nothing less than what has been agreed by Parliament on the night of the 26th March, 2019 bar the usual non-substantive drafting refinements".
