The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is deeply alarmed by reports of threats against its members and other media practitioners, particularly in the Central, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions for exposing the destructive activities in the galamsey endemic areas.

According to these reports the galamseyers have vowed to “teach the journalists a lesson" if they refuse to halt their exposes on illegal mining.

Following the conclusion of the work of the Election Dispute Adjudication Committee (EADC) relating to the GJA 2017 Elections, the Elections Committee has decided as follows; Re-opening of nominations for prospective candidates to contest National and Regional Executive positions -- Monday, 22nd May 2017

In view of appeals/petitions that have come before the GJA 2017 Elections Adjudication Committee (EDAC) and pursuant to Article 53 (v) of the GJA Constitution of 2004, the Elections Committee has postponed the elections scheduled for 31st March 2017.

This follows the inability of EDAC to meet the requirements imposed on it per Article 53 (iv) which requires the Committee to “consider the appeal and announce its decisions to the parties involved with a copy to the National Executive not more than four (4) working days after receiving the appeal”.
