 HO, March 27, 2019, GJA - MS Elizabeth Ohene, a veteran journalist and former Minister of State in the Kufour Administration, Tuesday cut the sod for commencement of work on a press center project for the Volta Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).

The first phase of the project, estimated at Ghc60,000, comprises a pavilion, bar/restaurant, offices, store and washrooms. The project is expected to be completed and commissioned on May 03, 2019 to commemorate this year’s World Press Freedom Day and also mark GJA’s 70th Anniversary.



Madam Ohene commended Volta GJA for the foresight and said the facility would serve as a center for intellectual stimulation. Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister,  on behalf of the Regional Coordinating Council, pledged to support the project. He said the facility would enhance dissemination of news in the region and called on journalists to remain professional.

Mr Affail Monney, President of GJA, described the project as “historic” and applauded Volta GJA for being a “reference point and standard measure” for all GJA branches and chapters.

Mr Dela Gadzanku, Volta and Eastern Regional Chairman, Association of Ghana Industries, also  pledged the Association’s  support for the project. Mr A. B. Kafui Kanyi, Volta Regional GJA Chairman, said the sod-cutting ceremony had brought closer the dream of a Regional Press Centre. He said the facility would serve as a rallying point for journalist and help generate revenue for the Association.
